September 26 was the memorable moment of EastEnders when they were handed the 'Best Soap' prize at the Inside Soap Awards 2011 in London. Interestingly, it became the biggest winner at the ceremony, taking home five awards ahead of Coronation Street's three.
It is necessary to know that Inside Soap Awards is a yearly award ceremony run by Inside Soap magazine since 1996 with the aim of celebrating the British and Australian soap operas and their actors. Until 2007, EastEnders had won the award for "Best Soap" on every occasion while The Bill has won "Best Drama" every year, except in 2005 when Bad Girls was crowned. In this year’s award ceremony, EastEnders star Jessie Wallace who has had a dramatic year both on and off screen was crowned Best Actress for her portrayal of pub landlady Kat Moon at the 2011 Inside Soap Awards. Other EastEnders winners included young Maisie Smith who performs the funny and cute Tiffany Butcher was awarded Best Young Actor title while Tameka Empson won Funniest Performance for her hilarious portrayal of Kim Fox and the Masood and Khan nuptials were declared the Best Wedding.
