Andhra pradesh is one of the highly developed states in India. In recent years this state has become one of the important IT states of India. The state consists of three regions as Coastal andhra pradesh, Rayalaseema and Telangana. Of these three regions, coastal region is highly developed. Andhra pradesh is predominantly an agriculture based state but since 1991 the contribution of services sector in general and the IT sector in particular to GSDP (gross state domestic product) has been increasing.

The past reports indicate that the percentage of participation of people in elections is very less and is around 50% on an average. In other words many people do not exercise their franchise but blame politicians if any untoward incidents like terror attacks, price rise occur. In 2009 elections there are expectations that the participation of people in the election process would increase due to increase in the awareness among the masses about the importance of voting. People have realised that one of the solutions to their problems is to elect a good legislator. In Andhra Pradesh too money and muscle power play a dominant role during elections. Various political parties compete to distribute money to the voters to cast their valuable vote to them. Political parties do indulge in booth capturing, manipulation of electoral rolls, impersonation, poll related violence, to win the elections at any cost.

In the recent years the state has been witnessing many new political parties floated by several popular people. These parties have been competing with one another for power by announcing several attractive welfare schemes. Both Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy and N. Chandrababu naidu belong to the rayalaseema region of andhra pradesh, while Chiranjeevi belongs to the coastal region and K.Chandrasekhar rao belongs to telangana region. The above four are the prominent political leaders for the forthcoming assembly elections. After becoming a political leader everybody becomes corrupt. For some people, politics is a lucrative business as they divert the funds meant for developmental activities to their personal purposes.

Recently telugudesam, communist parties, and telangana rashtra samithi came forward to form into a single grand alliance but seat adjustment problems occurred among themselves. Actress Vijaya santhi's talli telangana has merged with telangana rashtra samithi to fight together for a separate telangana state. Similarly, Chiranjeevi's brother has floated a separate yuvarajyam to attract the youth.

The voters should analyse carefully the following aspects before casting their valuable vote:

1. Whether party's agenda fulfills the aspirations of the people,

2. What is the background of the contesting candidate,

3. Whether the candidate has any knowledge of the problems of local people,

4. Whether the contesting candidate has the problem solving skills, leadership skills, etc.

Ultimately we need the political leaders who are willing to achieve our constitutional goals at the earliest. In Andhra Pradesh state, there are many political parties in the fray for the forthcoming assembly elections. All the parties are willing to solve the people's problems. Such a competition among the parties will hopefully do some good for the people.
