On Wednesday October 12, 2011, Google’s home-page “Doodle” celebrates the 90th birthday of Gumby creator Art Clokey with an interactive logo of Gumby & Friends in the style of his clay animations. Furthermore, the clickable animation also features the launch of the website GumbyWorld, which marks anecdotes, pictures and rare movie clips.
The interesting Gumby Doodle which starts off with some clay balls and a child’s wooden block was produced by top animator Anthony Scott and puppet/prop maker Nicole LaPointe-McKay for the Clokey Productions Premavision studios. Over the last few years, Google doodles have become very popular and used to celebrate all kinds of events, from civic milestones and birthdays to death anniversaries and important dates in history.Talking about Google Doodle, Joe Clokey Art Clokey’s son and creator of Gumby’s new website shared: “The Google Doodle is the perfect tribute to my father’s work”. “Art’s life and film career were ahead of their time. My dad would have been thrilled to be connected with Google in this way.”

Art Clokey was a pioneer in the popularization of stop motion clay animation and his best-known animated characters were Gumby, his horse Pokey, Gumby's dog Nopey and Prickle, a yellow dinosaur which were popular during the 1950s and 60s. Interestingly, Gumby Costumes have been so popular and favorite for both children and adults around the world. Gumby’s name came from Art Clokey’s childhood experiences during summer when he visited to his grandfather's farm and enjoyed playing with the clay and mud mixture called "gumbo".
