Hollywood star Elizabeth Taylor passed away earlier this year and her exquisite jewels, couture gowns as well as artwork were sold at a Christie’s auction in New York City on Tuesday night, December 13, 2011.
Elizabeth Taylor’s jewelry auctioned for $115 million broke a world record for a private collection of jewels and exceeded expectations. The diamond necklace that Richard Burton, one of her seven husbands, gave her as a Valentine's gift was sold for the price of $11,842,500, five times more than expected.
Another highlight of the event is that Taylor’s diamond ring from her two-time husband was purchased for $8.8 million by a South Korean hotel chain. Other Taylor's art, clothing and memorabilia will be auctioned and sold online on the upcoming Saturday, December 17 and the proceeds will go to the legend’s AIDS charity.
