After dating for more than 12 years, Chaz Bono and fiancée Jennifer Elia have called it quits. "Thanks for your concern about our separation," the "Dancing With the Stars" contestant and transgender activist posed Monday on Twitter. "I'm doing fine, and we remain on good terms with nothing but respect and affection 4 each other." The couple got engaged earlier this year when Chaz Bono proposed to Jennifer Elia in Seattle, which was featured during "Being Chaz," a one-hour special on Oprah Winfrey's OWN network that chronicled the couple's lives following Chaz Bono's surgery.
It's been a big year for Bono who finished his gender reassignment surgery in July 2010 from becoming a contestant on "Dancing with the Stars" to debuting his heavily-praised documentary "Becoming Chaz", which followed him through his dramatic physical and emotional journey. Elia was by Bono's side every step of the way, supporting her partner through his transformation. Chaz Bono, 42, and Jennifer Elia have been together since 1999. Chaz Bono, who now passes almost four years into the transition, also agreed that the couple were enjoying a healthy sex life. “We feel very lucky,” he told in May. During his time on Dancing With The Stars earlier this year Jennifer Elia was also regularly seen cheering him on from the audience. Interestingly, Jennifer Elia revealed that the process of dealing with Chaz Bono's transition was difficult at times, adding that she started drinking again when he told her that he made the final decision about changing genders.
